To rescue one air wingman trapped in an obscure mountain in Iran,
The US military had to dispatch its military engineers to build an emergency temporary airstrip in a desert, close to the mountain where the wounded soldier was hiding in less than 24 hours after the CIA had confirmed his location.
With the airstrip ready, the US military deployed two aircraft, believed to be MC-130J Commandos, to rescue the wounded soldier hiding in the mountain.
As this was happening, the US Air Force was actively providing air support to protect the men on the ground inside Iran and to protect the wounded air wingman from being captured by Iranian’s by dropping multiple bombs and missiles to blow up IRGC vehicles that tried to drive up the mountain and those that tried to drive to the airstrip.
When the two aircraft landed inside the emergency airstrip in Iran, the men inside the aircraft came out with urgency and sense of purpose and then ran on foot to meet the wounded air wingman hiding on top of the mountain, carried him back on their backs to the aircraft while the US Air Force, provided air support for protection.
The distance from the airstrip to the mountain and back was more than 70 km.
As this extraordinary rescue was taking place, the CIA planted fake news in the local Iranian media that the soldier had already been rescued and was being driven out of Iran, just to confuse the Iranian forces.
As the rescue team was about to take off after rescuing their man, the two aircraft that had landed on the airstrip became stuck and could not move.
The US military had to deploy another batch of helicopters to bring their men to safety and take them outside Iran.
The two MC-130Js that are stuck, each worth around $100 million, were demolished with bombs from the air as the rescue operation was completed, so as not to fall into enemy hands.
No US military member was lost in the heroic rescue operation.
The US is not a perfect country.
That is true, but no country is capable of pulling off such an operation, not China or Russia, reminding us that the US military is the greatest the world has seen, with no other country coming close.
