HE WILL NEVER LET US DOWN

‎ Deuteronomy 31:6 (TLB)
‎_”Be strong! Be courageous! Do not be afraid of them! For the Lord your God will be with you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you.”_

‎According to the US Department of Transportation, 2,000,000 pieces of luggage were mishandled by US airlines in 2021. Thankfully, many of these were only delayed or temporarily lost. Still, thousands never found their way back to their owners. It is no surprise that travellers are now investing in GPS devices to track their bags, especially after airlines stopped searching for lost luggage.

‎This is not a new struggle. In Nigeria during the 1990s, the Postal Service was notoriously unreliable. Letters and parcels went missing, and sometimes they were never recovered. Although parcel tracking technology has now been introduced, its use remains limited. The fear is always the same: Can I trust the handlers of my belongings to deliver them safely?
‎Israel wrestled with a similar fear, not of luggage or parcels, but of God Himself. They feared He might abandon them. As the people prepared to enter the Promised Land, Moses delivered stunning news: at 120 years old, he could no longer lead them, and God had forbidden him from crossing the Jordan (Deuteronomy 31:1–6). For a people who had always seen Moses as God’s voice and presence, this was deeply unsettling. Would God now leave them stranded in the wilderness?

‎Moses, however, reassured them. He publicly passed leadership to Joshua, his long-time aide and commander, and then declared: “For the Lord your God will be with you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6). This promise repeated throughout Scripture became the foundation of their courage. Their confidence was not in their own strength or armies, but in God’s abiding presence.

‎That same unshakeable promise is ours today. Through Christ, God assures us, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20). We may lose luggage, letters, or even leaders, but we will never lose God. He will never leave us. Never.

‎ Reflections
‎● When have I worried that God had abandoned me?
‎● How has He demonstrated that He never forgets me?
‎● Is my confidence and trust based on this promise or self-help?

‎ Key Takeaways
‎● God’s promises should be the source of your confidence in life.
‎● The thought of being abandoned by God is a distraction from the Devil.
‎● God’s unfailing love and mercy, which wake us up every morning, should serve as a reminder that you are not forgotten.

‎ Prayer
‎Father God, I often fear that I am out of your sight and thoughts. Please help me to believe that you are with me always and will never forget me in Jesus’ name, Amen.

‎ Declaration
‎I declare in the name of Jesus that I am strong and courageous. I do not fear anything that each day brings. For the Lord, my God, is with me. He has never and will never fail me nor forsake me, Amen
