The story of Joy Jeff should be a dire lesson to all criminals all over the world who think that human trafficking, especially that of children is safe. An old adage says that gold fish has no hinding place. To these type of heartless criminals who feel no regrets nor remorse to see children suffering, let it be known that in the present technology driving world, their dirty trade is become obsolette and quite antiquated and therefre should be advised to be discontinued with alacrity. The civilized world frowns deeply at human trafficking, and views it with the same eye as it sees drug trafficking and terrorism. To think that this wicked trade is as old as human history. You see it in the bible with the sale of Joseph by his brothers. The slave trade, both Sahara and Antlantic is still rankling the terribly dented African continent which is the direct victim of this most inhuman trade. To think the some sub humans still think that the suffering of others in chains and bodage should be their own source of wealth and joy is beyond any rational minds thought.
Joy Jeff, a Nigerian woman who has been wanted in Italy since 2010 has been extradited from Abuja back to Rome where she has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for crimes including running a prostitution ring, Italian police said on Wednesday.
Joy Jeff, who is 48, was one of the few women on Italy’s most-wanted list, police said in a statement, describing her as a prominent figure in the Nigerian mafia.
The extradition was facilitated by a treaty signed by Nigeria and Italy in 2020.
She was arrested in Nigeria on June 4, 2022, on an international warrant issued by Italy, the statement said.
Italian investigators in the eastern city of Ancona said Joy Jeff played a leading role in trafficking women to Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, where they were forced into prostitution by violence and threats. She has been convicted in her absence.
Video released by the Italian police showed Joy Jeff being flown from the Nigerian capital Abuja to Ciampino airport in Rome where she was taken away in a wheelchair by police.
