Paul Uzokwe
2 Kings 4:1 KJV
Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord : and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
This scriptures speaks volume of how we ought to respond when in difficulties/problem's. First the woman cried out to Elisha.Today we do not cry to prophets, pastor's and priest's but to God the Father and His son Jesus Christ for whatever situation we find ourselves in. The form of cry was simply prayer. The woman was mandated or compulsory to use this avenue/medium, because that was the only way in the old, because Christ has not fulfilled the law. Now that Christ has fulfilled the law, this medium is sealed. There are things to observe and learn from this family .
(1) Everyone must die and death is not predictable as to know when one would leave the earth. We therefore need to make our ways right before we leave the earth. Salvation is the ultimate and nothing to compromise with it.
(2)The husband feared the Lord and served the Lord. Is your own case the same or are you reverencing/worshiping men?
(3)This family was indebted/ owing. Who's fault was it? The man,the woman or the children? Think about it and don't push the blame to anyone just like Adam did in the case of Eve.
(4)The children were to be taken captive if the debt was not paid. The key/ very important thing to learn in this verse of the scriptures is to pay attention, in shielding/protecting our home's/Families. We must make sure our families are not in debt at death. It is shameful and disgraceful for a servant of God in the sight of God. God promised his servants that they will not lack anything when He sent them out.The servants of God/Believers must learn to be resourceful and also use his /her resources wisely and profitable for the kingdom of God. What Elisha did was an act of charity by provision through God's power, when the woman complained to him
Jesus Christ also did the same, who himself is our example, but today many men of God will ask you to bring money to get you out of debt. This is not the pattern and because they know not, they perish and fall for it. Prophets are redeemer's not destroyers. God reveals things to his people to redeem them. Lastly to free yourself from being indebted and your family , you must not be like a fool who spends everything he/she earns. Proverbs 21:20.
Blessings.
