Osinbajo voices his overt disapproval
Our elders say that he whom the gods want to destroy, they first make him mad. This is coming to fruition in the trajectory Tinubu’s politics is taking in recent times. For some one who is assumed to be an astute political expert as far as the politics of Nigeria goes, his recent goofs; ranging from his inability to present his birth certificate, evidence of his elementary and secondary school attendance, his continued blunders during interviews and now this mother of all bludering goofs, to choose a muslim as his running mate in a country where such is viewed and treated as a taboo.
Let it be note worthy that the last time this was tried by his ebulent kinsman, it was not only a failure, it was tragic to boot.
That this character brazenly and unabashedly bribed delegates in the primaries of his political party in currencies of another land which is of course a clear announcement to the disdain to which he holds the currency of the country he is anxious to sit on its seat of power, and now this insult to the greater population of the country, could mean at least two of many options. One, being that he has a plan of rigging, which he is depending on to see him to Aso rock, knowing fully well that this Muslim/ Muslim shenanigan is a non starter and therefore in the scheme of a plain playing field is doomed to fail. Otherwise his supposed new found friendenemies have set him up for a colossal fall. Which is a more likely scenerio, considering recent manouvers by core players in his team of the northern extraction. These are moves towards the opposition from whence most of them had come anyways and of which their presidential flag bearer is one of them.
The reaction from Nigerians to this not so intelligent move has been high and loud. One of the loudest voices has been non other than the Vice president of the nation, Professor Yemi Osibanjo, who is an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian and who had contested the presidential primaries under the same party, but lost to Tinubu.
Be it as it may, the Vice-President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo has reportedly expressed his displeasure about the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 presidential election.
Recall that the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu announced the former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as his running mate despite calls against the Muslim/Muslim tickets.
A Presidency source that spoke on the trending issue on Monday claimed that Osinbajo has expressed his objection to the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
The source who spoke with Vanguard further stated that Osinbajo was also against the ticket in 2014 before he was eventually nominated as VP.
The source said, “Professor Osinbajo is opposed to this thing announced on Sunday, and his objections are well known both to the party and even the flagbearer himself.”
According to the source, Osinbajo recently advise APC chieftains and Tinubu against the Muslim/Muslim ticket.
He claimed that such an unbalanced ticket would simply be an untenable and unnecessary risk.
The source said, “The VP explained the logic, fairness and justice of a balanced ticket is unassailable. The argument that merit should be considered above a Muslim- Christian balance presents a false choice. It is not one or the other. You can get all the merit you want in a balanced ticket.
“The VP said anything short of a balanced ticket creates needless tension and further aggravates some of the country’s fault lines. But a balanced ticket certainly sends a positive signal.”
The question here is this, Is this the end of the ruling party, APC in Nigeria; It is clearly looking so.
