LETTER TO GHANAIAN LEADERS, PAST AND PRESENT

Jan 17, 2025

Dear President-Elect, former presidents, and members of the Armed Forces,

I greet you all with respect and a deep sense of concern for the well-being of our beloved nation, Ghana.

Recent events involving the burning of markets, public places, police units, and the targeting of innocent people and institutions have left many of us deeply troubled. These acts not only threaten our peace and stability but also cast a shadow over the trust we have in leadership and national unity.

It is at times like this that we, as citizens, look up to our leaders – both past and present – and our armed forces for guidance, strength, and reassurance. Unity among leaders is key in moments like this to demonstrate to the world and the people of Ghana that regardless of differences, the nation’s welfare comes first.

A Call for Collective and Effective Action

  1. To the President-Elect His excellency JD MAHAMA:

Your leadership is vital in assuring the citizens that peace and security remain a top priority. Calm, decisive, and inclusive actions will inspire trust and stability.

  1. To the former president His excellency Nana Addo DANKWA Akuffo- Addo and His excellency John Agyekum KUFfOUR:
Your experience and wisdom are assets that can guide the nation in moments of uncertainty. Coming together in solidarity will send a strong message that Ghana’s leadership stands united against any threat to peace.
  2. To the IGP DOMPARE, Armed Forces of Ghana, and the special security experts:
Your role in defending and protecting the nation is indispensable. We trust in your professionalism and commitment to maintaining order while ensuring the safety and rights of every Ghanaian.

As a native in diaspora who believes in the greatness of Ghana, I urge you all to work together to restore peace and stability. This is not a time for division but a moment to prove that our collective love for Ghana is stronger than any challenge we face.

Let us all, leaders, clergy, and citizens alike, commit to fostering dialogue, encouraging unity, and promoting peace to secure a brighter future for generations to come.

May God bless you all, and may God bless Ghana.

Let our 9th change of government bring hope and trust in democracy for at least 4 years, until we get to the ballot boxes in 2028 to make a choice again. Ghana is not stable now. Let there be peace.

Yours faithfully,

Nana Amoako Richard
