Arewa is the beautiful daughter of a king. The king is angry. The Queen is sad. Why? Because Arewa does not want to marry any of the suitors that want her hand in marriage. Rich princes come, Arewa refused. Handsome princes come, Arewa refuses. Strong princes, come, Arewa says no. Tall, short, fat old and young men come, yet Arewa refuses. One day the king of the spirits heard about Arewa and how beautiful she is. He heard also how she has refused to marry any of the men that have come to seek her hand in marriage. Because the king of the spirit, is very ugly he went to the beautiful fairy and borrowed a beautiful body. He went to the king of the birds and borrowed a beautiful voice. The next day, he left the land of the spirit, and came to Arewa’s father’s palace with lots of followers. He came with horses, bags of gold, silver and other precious gifts. He also came with carts full of yam, cocoa yam, corn and different kinds of foodstuff. Also he brought many heads of cattle, and many chicken, goats and sheep.
When Arewa saw the handsome prince with the wonderful gift. She was pleased and made up her mind to marry him. In the night he sang with a very melodious voice. She demanded to know who was singing with such a sweet voice. Arewa was told that it is the handsome prince. She agreed to marry him immediately the prince proposed to her. The handsome spirit king told Arewa’s father that he comes from a distant land. Arewa agreed to go with him. She said even if he comes from the land of spirit, she will go with him. After the marriage ceremony, the spirit king put Arewa on his horse and rode away to the land of the spirit.
Immediately the spirit king got back to his land, he went and gave back the beautiful body to the king of beauty and the sweet voice to the king of the spirit birds.
When Arewa saw him as ugly as he really is she ran into her room and hid. The spirit s caught her and put her in a big cage in the village square. They brought a big pot and made a big fire. They put the big pot on the fire, and put water and other ingredients. They were preparing to kill and eat her. Arewa cried. Every day she continued crying. Then one day she looked up and saw the kite, it was hovering over the land of the spirit. Arewa started crying and singing.
Oh kite, hovering over the living and the spirit Oh go, tell my Father Oh go, tell my Mother That Arewa their daughter is lost while looking for a prefect husband. very sorry for her. It flew to Arewa’s Father’s house and told him what he

Therefore the kite flew again to the land of the spirit; he hovered for sometime around and above the spirits preparing for a feast. Then it took a piece of the burning wood from their bonfire and dropped it on the king of the spirit’s house. The house caught fire. The spirit ran up and down, trying to put out the fire. The kite immediately swooped and took Arewa. He carried her and flew away. He took her back to her father’s house.
Every body was very happy. The mother cried. She was too happy because her daughter was back from the land of the spirits. Arewa was very happy that she was saved. The king was very grateful to the kite. He asked him what he wanted in return for his good service. The kite did not speak, but continued looking at the hen with it’s chicken. The king asked the kite if it wanted the hen? The kite shook his head. He asked him if he wanted the chicken and he nodded happily. And so the king gave the kite a basket full of chicken. As the kite was flying away with his reward, one chicken fell off the basket. That is why the kite comes to carry his chicken that fell off the basket
