With the recent presentation of his Letters of Credence to Belgian King Philippe I, Ambassador Obinna C. Onowu is formally tasked with ensuring continuity in the 60 year diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Belgium. Beyond maintenaining the cordial relations that both countries have enjoyed over the years, it became crystal clear during his presentation to the King and thereafter in his maiden statement, that trade & investment are major priorities of Ambassador Onowu who highlighted “the need for collaboration especially in the areas of trade and investment, capacity building, Education, Health and Information Technology in a bid to deepen economic ties between both nations” in his maiden statement. With this the Ambassador opened a window into his policy intentions during his tour of duties.
As the foremost representative of business interests of Belgian and Luxembourgish businessmen and women in the region, the Belgium Luxemburg Nigeria Chamber of Commerce (BLNCC) sought and secured the partnership of the Mission of Nigeria to Belgium, Luxemburg & the EU to bring together captains of industries with investments in Nigeria or are prospecting to enter the country for what has been tagged the Ambassador Meet & Greet.
Envisioned as a semi-formal, yet convivial event the Ambassador Meet & Greet is a forum for the new Ambassador to meet business leaders in the first instance but also other relevant stakeholders and interest groups and individuals on Friday 3 September 2021, in the gardens of the Embassy of Nigeria in Brussels.
It is also a forum for complimentary businesses to meet and interface.
Speakers
Chris Amssoms, President BLNCC vzw will formally open the open-air Barbecue event at 2pm.
His Excellency, Ambassador Obinna Onowu will give a sense of his policy intentions around trade and investment, seen from its broad sense.
Taking the last word will be Mr Pierre Vanderbeeck, President Emeritus BLNCC and Chairman of SIAT Group of Companies to share testimony of his over 40 years investment activities in Nigeria.
Belgium Luxembourg Nigeria chamber of Commerce
Founded nearly 40 years ago by a group around our current Live-President, Mr Leo D’Hondt, the then Belgium Nigeria Chamber of Commerce (BNCC) is a bridge linking the commerce interest groups of Belgium to their Nigerian Counterparts.
In 2013, the body was expanded to include businesses in Luxemburg and was rechristened Belgium Luxemburg Nigeria Chamber of Commerce (BLNCC). Led by a Board of Trustees made up of credible and accomplished men and woman in their chosen fields, of Belgian, Luxembourgish and Nigerian origin, the BLNCC’s General Assembly is constituted by corporate entities and individual members operating out of these three focal economies.
Objectives of Ambassador Meet & Greet
The Ambassador Meet & Greet is positioned to:
* Identify existing businesses with interests in Nigeria and avail them a convivial
environment to meet with the new trade-friendly Ambassador, his trade advisors and
other senior members of his team.
* Identify business potentials and prospects for Nigeria in the priority sectors of Mr
Ambassador and activate an interface between them and the Ambassador’s trade
team.
* Create opportunity for the Ambassador to directly address the business community
collectively on business opportunities in Nigeria and open a line of communication as
precursor for possible one-on-one sessions.
