One of the greatest tragedies in life is not a lack of effort but a lack of direction. Many people are diligent, hardworking, and persistent, yet they find themselves frustrated because they are moving in the wrong direction. Speed is only beneficial when the destination is correct. A person can run with great energy, invest years of labor, and still end up far from God’s purpose if their vision is faulty. Wisdom teaches us that before we focus on how fast we are moving, we must first determine where we are headed.
Consider the experience of boarding an aircraft. Before takeoff, the destination is announced so that every passenger can confirm they are on the right flight. Imagine discovering after six hours of travel that you boarded a plane going in the opposite direction from where you intended to go. The time, energy, and resources invested would have been wasted. In the same way, life requires clarity of vision. Many people spend decades pursuing goals that are not aligned with God’s purpose, only to realize later that they have achieved success in the wrong direction. This is what can be described as effort in futility.
God desires that His children live intentionally. Vision gives meaning to effort, and purpose gives value to sacrifice. Before committing years of work to any pursuit, we must seek God’s wisdom and ensure that our goals align with His will. A clear vision helps us evaluate opportunities, make wise decisions, and remain focused on what truly matters. When our direction is established by God, every step we take contributes to a meaningful and fruitful destination.
