Mr Peter Obi, the presidential flag bearer of the Nigerian democratic Congress (NDC), a political party in Nigeria has made very serious allegations that his life in danger. Though the accusation was not particularly directed at anyone, any one knows that only the government and the machines of the ruling party, the APC can dare to plan such a wild and mad scheme, if it is proven to be true.
Peter has proven to be a pain in the sensitive part of this ruling party. in the last election in 2023, which ushered this present in by hook or by crook, Peter Obi had given them a run for their money. the election which had been marred by so much controversies and accusations of malpractices, had its results determined by the courts instead of the votes of the people.
In a broadcast that has gone super viral, Mr Obi has said has shocked the entire nation, infact the entire listening world when he announced the cilling message that he may not be alive to participate in the next nation;s election which is scheduled for the early months of the next year.
In this broadcast, he had stated that his friends now avoid him because they allude that any one found fraternazing with him is immediately subjected to every kind of government harrasments and threats. He revealed how some friends of his would inform him of celebtations they are having, but politely ask him not to come.
He told the story of an episode in the airport, in which his car was being levied for parking wrongly. This is despite the fact that other cars were parked in the same place. He had tried to explain to the airport security personnel who were involved in the open act of intimidation that he is Peter Obi, but they just stared at him with nonchalance and ingnored hi.. No sign of recognition, no respect.
Now, the story did not end there. The minister of aviation of Nigeria suddenly appeared in the drama, belching fire and threats. He threw a fine of Twent Five Thousand Naira at Obi and a demanded that he should render an apology to the security personnel of the airport.
Legal pundits, quoting aspects of the law that pertain to this sort of issue have carefully explained to the over exuberant minister who is obviously doing his master’s bidding that under the constitution of the land, it is only a duly constituted court of law that is reposed with the power to impose and collect levy, in the case of a proven infringement of the law. Not any paratatal or minister. As in this case.
However, Obi who has a very dedicated followership who believe that he should be the best president Nigeria would ever have, claiming that he is acting on security tip off is presently in the USA, to return in a weeks time, while his followers have stated unequivocally, that should any harm come to their leader, there will be hell to pay.
This is quite a worrying siituation. Has Nigerian politics degenerated to this macabre level, where political opponents are subjected to threats of death.
Our prayers is that this hola by Mister Obi is just that, a hola. Nigeria can not afford another war.
