I neither responded with a smirk nor a mere shake of the of the nead but really with absolute shock the day I saw a politician in the north of Nigeria sharing out wheel barrows to certain members of his costituency as empowerment materials. Someone else showed another publication of a smiling politician of the same northern Nigeria, marrying off about a thousand youth of his electorate, after coaking them in some colourful garg of red and some other colours. Another is that of another happy politician commissioning a single street light. I was also shown the publication of a politician empowering his people with fabicated wheel barrows illed with gallons. This a rade tool of those that sell water in the streets. All these are happening in this 21st Century of the Digital age. The is in a part the same country that boasts the richest black man in the world. In this same northern Nigeria the tales of the elites stealing and looting is unprecidented. This include the recent scandal of one man who stole more than 200 Billion Naira of teh peoples money. Cases including his abound of these politicians paying the school fees of their children abroad to the tune of millions of American dollars. This is while the people are wallowing and dying in abject penury

For 62 years after Nigeria gqt her so called independence, the north of Nigeria has ruled the country for more than 35 years, yet insteaed of progress and developement in that part of the country, underdelelpment, poverty, hunger, insecurity, death and destruction have been the tales of woes coming out of that region.

The eastern region of the country not any longer interested in the false unity of Nigeria had wanted out of the set up. Unfortunately this let to a three year bloody war. This war was fought fully in the eastern part, with the dead and casualties numbering in millions. After this, there has followed unprecedented marginalisation, deprivation, persecution and oppression on these easterners by the Nigerian state. Howevern contrary to popular expectation, something miraculous is happening. While the north and even the south are bedeviled by every sorts of societal negativities, the south is growing exppenentially in developement and every other indices that are used to rate human progress in the ind-ternational sphere.

Here is a report of one case of looting that has kept the north in its perpetual impoverished state

Hon. Ibrahim Kabiru wrote: Now, I finally understand why Nnamdi Kanu is agitating to separate his people from Nigeria, not that I support what he is doing, but when you see people like Malami who allegedly acquired assets worth over ₦200 BILLION, and the likes Of Farouq and so many of them shamelessly squandering our common wealth, you begin to see how badly broken this country is. And the moment the government moves to arrest them, some brain-dead voices start shouting that “ The Government is fighting the North.”

These people steal stupendous amounts of money, enjoy it alone with their children, destroy the future of millions, and still demand our loyalty, This is exactly why they don’t want the country divided, because they are benefiting massively from a united but corrupt system.

Henseforth….Any northern elite who steals public money should be arrested and jailed. This is not a northern issue; it is a personal crime. He stole alone, spent alone, enjoyed alone and so he should face the law alone. Dragging the name and dignity of the entire North into the crimes of a few thieves is stupid and dangerous. It only protects criminals, insults ordinary northerners, and keeps the North poor while a handful of families live large.

Stop using the North to defend corruption. Enough is enough.
