Arsenal oh Arsenal

Are the Gunners living up to the ridicule of their detractors as an elephant on a thin branch. No one knows how it got there, but there is no doubt how it is going to come down.

Is this the case of the dangerous assumption of a slave thinking it can be king or are they real princes qualified and entitled to the throne. The throne in this case being the Premier League championship. A most coveted positions any team in the UK would die to achieve.

The accelerated speed at which Arsenal moved at the beginning of the season, leaving all other contenders impressively behing, with difference in points at a time, if I am not mistaken, in double digits was quite admirable. But disappointingly, now towards the tape, the team had gone all wobbly.

According to my friend Nedum Ejiogu, an ardent fan of the Gunners, in reaction to my expressed disappointment at his team’s shoddy show against Manchester City last night. “Yesterdays’s loss was truly abysmal for a team with championship aspirations. Inexperience and lack of squad depth finally caught up with the boys. Losing two defenders (one being your best) at crunch time has exposed them to more attacking breaches.” On Man City, he has this to say, “Mancity is so deep that there is no difference between the first and second teams”

However, being the die hard fan he is , he did not give up on his favourite club as be paints the situation that is slowly looking hopeless with fine glossy colours. “None gave Arsenal a chance of making the top four. But they will certainly be the second at the worst. Give the boys big kudos in spite of their recent underperformance”

Another die hard Gunners fan in the same whatsapp platform with Nedum and I, Clem Otti, an ex footballer of the Spartan of Owerri days, is still all praises for their flagging team. In his opinion “Arteta and Arsenal can best be described as Fantastic, having surpassed their target. From top four to a tantative Second …the game is not over yet… he opined optimistically

Then in typical Arsenal rabit fan fashion, he takes a swap at me, telling Nedum not to mind the Arsenal haters

Need I add more to this.

Let the reader add his own, especially Gunner fans. We others who have chosen other teams are watching keenly from the side lines. Some, are really expecting the elephant on a thin branch to come down hard, while others are cheering the Gunners on, saying that Man C has been around too long. A change is needed.

Is Arsenal that change? A big question.
