ICPC Raids Buratai’s Abuja Home, Recovers Billions Of Naira, 50 Luxury Watches
It has come to the notice of all concerned citizens of Nigeria and indeed the entire world, and that of The Scope News the impunity with which the present government of Nigeria operate. That this present government of Nigeria has been elected as a replacement to a supposedly extremely corrupt government and based on their campaign promises that they will battle corruption to its bitter end, but alas, the opposite has turned out to be the story. This present government has ended up being the most inept, the most corrupt and the most disappointing administration Nigeria has ever had.
Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have reportedly raided the home of a former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai. According to the report, the ICPC operative recovered over a billion naira from Buratai, who is now Nigeria’s Ambassador to Benin Republic. The anti-graft agency was said to have also recovered over 50 luxury watches, including at least two Rolex varieties, from the former army boss. According to sources, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) had alerted the ICPC when it commenced a probe of an alleged military contractor named Salisu. An ICPC source said: “NFIU discovered that N500 million was paid into Salisu’s account at once and quickly flagged it. “When Salisu was queried he said he was a military contractor, but he was unable to show any evidence of carrying out any contract for the military.” The NFIU later transferred the case to the ICPC who proceeded to carry out more investigation and the raid, which occurred last week. Sahara Reporters had first reported the raid on Thursday night, which put the recovered funds at about N1.85 billion. The ICPC had conducted a raid on Salisu’s home, recovering “hundreds of millions of naira, all in new notes,” a source told Peoples Gazette. One of the sources said: “We discovered that the place is owned by Buratai and he has been working with the man to loot military funds for many years. “It is unfortunate that Nigerian soldiers are suffering at the war front due to lack of equipment.” Speaking to the publication, Buratai said no warrant was obtained to search his house. “Nobody obtained any warrants to search my place,” he said. Buratai however disconnected the call when quizzed on whether or not he was confirming the raid and cash recovery from his property.
It can easily be recalled that at the height of this administration’s reign, insecurity was reigning and rising with it. Villages were being ransacked, kidnapping and murder the order of the day and places of worship were neither respected nor spared in the madness, as churches and mosques were attacked with brazen impunity and Nigerian were dying in their hundreds. This raised an awful hullaballoo from the citizenry, which questioned the competence of the service chiefs which included this General Buratai who was the chief of army staff. The public called for their removal and discipline. The government that has been apathetic to the plight of the people pretended not to hear. Trust the Nigerians, the clamour was raised to a deafening crescendo. The country’s security architecture needed a total redesign. The tough guy government buckled under the weight of the people’s pressure and the service chiefs were given a marching order; However, much to the nation’s shock, these people that were removed from office for gross incompetence were promoted to the status of ambassadors representing the nation in the diplomatic circle.
Now, the world is being revealed to, what the service chiefs were doing with the security money allocated to them while the country was burning and young soldiers under their command were being massacred by terrorists and the blood of innocent Nigerians flowing. Buratai was washing his hands in the blood of Nigerians as he was stockpiling the money that could save Nigerian lives.
The compensation in this narrative and sad occurrence is that this will in no way whatsoever be the last government Nigeria will have.
