Benin Republic forward Steve Mounie who strikes for the Brest football club in france, has said that their national team which goes by the name Squirrels is fired up for their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Nigeria. It is going to be interesting to watch a squirrel beat an eagle. But the truth is that in the magical world of soccer, anything is possible.

The Squirrels are scheduled to face the Super Eagles at the Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto-Novo on Saturday 27th of March 2021..

“We all feel very good , very happy to have been able to travel, to come to the country to help the nation to qualify for the 2021 AFCON,” Mounie told the media. He said with emphasis that they are not afraid of the Eagles. He had to say that because in their group which also include Sierra Leone and Lesotho the eagles is riding top gun. with eight point while they come second with seven, followed by the Sierra Leoners with three points. The runt of the ladder being Lesotho.

“We trained well this week and we are ready for this match. The ideal scenario would be for Lesotho and Sierra Leone to play a draw. And that we will only have to draw or win against Nigeria to qualify”

The Brest of France striker however lamented the absence of fans for the game.

“For us, it is a handicap to play without the fans. We know that they are always behind us and that they support us strongly during our home matches,”Mounie added.

“They are really the twelfth man, not having them with us, we’ll miss that for sure. We hope that they will support us in front of their TV, pray for us and that we will all qualify together.

The Super Eagles are already in Benin Republic, which is Nigerias borderin neighbours in the western flank of the powerful African nation.
