The above seeming cacophony of a list that looks more like a child’s scribbling is one of the most powerful documents of NdiIgbo or even Nigerian contemporary history. It is on record that South East Nigeria that geographical area occupied by the Igbos is the about the most developed regions of Africa. All the indices with which the social development of a society is measured which include education, transportation, habitation, diet, clothes, dual heritage and such have passed the fifty percent bench mark in this area. The truth of the matter however is that virtually all these development that have occurred amongst these highly driven and extremely intelligent people are self effort. Tales are told of women who sold the wrappers their wrappers so as to contribute to these development projects, be in roads, electricity, community pipe borne water, town halls and such.
A most perfect example was an extremely ambitious project of the building of an airport which they undertook in the heat of the second republic of Nigeria. This was master minded by Sam Mbakwe which was the Imo state governor of that period. The airport was ultimately named after him Sam Mbakwe International and Cargo Airport
The pure bloods whom their names appeared in the above list are the ones who contributed the finances with which the airport project commenced and concluded between 1982 and 1983.
It is said that this is the only airport in Nigeria that was financed by the sons and daughters of the land through launching and other forms of contributions and labor.
One can see, what the supposed rich and powerful of that era was contributing, and the earth was shaking and folks were breathless when such amount was mentioned then. This one can compare with the present economic situation and see how far Nigeria has fallen economically
